St. Thomas More must provide a safe environment for children and youth. We hold ALL adults who work with minors to a code of conduct that is Christ-centered and professional. The Safe Environment Program implemented by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge requires us to evaluate the background of all paid personnel and volunteers whose duties include ongoing, unsupervised contact with minors.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge has adopted Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Any one who wants to volunteer at St. Thomas More must be in compliance with this policy. ALL requirements must be met in order to volunteer.
The Diocese is still transitioning to a new system for volunteers to apply for Child Protection Certification. In the meantime, you may still follow these steps to become certified to volunteer at STM:
When volunteering or participating in STM events, please remember that due to safety and liability coverage, we cannot allow any other children or siblings who are not St. Thomas More students to attend.
Click here for the grade-level lists for summer reading requirements. Be sure to click on the grade your child will be entering in the 2024-2025 school year. Please email Sara Wisdom at wisdoms@stmbr.org if you have any questions.
Students in 3rd - 6th grade are required to test on their two summer reading books. We will offer two testing dates over the summer: Thursday, June 20 and Wednesday, July 24. Students may only test on one book at each testing date. Students also may test on their books when we return to school in August.
Now that there are multiple kid phone options, parents are hungry for guidance. Gabb, Pinwheel, Troomi, and Bark are great, mission-minded organizations that want to protect kids online. Any of the four is an amazing and safer option than an iPhone or Android during the critical “training” years. Click here to read the full article from Protect Young Eyes.
STM students in 6th-8th grade are invited to join the STM Eagles team in the St. Michael the Archangel Middle School Kickball Tournament benefiting Fund$ies for the Nunsies on Friday, April 26 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Go to stmbr.org/kickball to fill in the interest form for your child by Wednesday, April 17. ATTENTION PRESCHOOL PARENTS: After the fourth birthday, your child is eligible to receive shots required for kindergarten entry. If your child receives immunizations, please send a copy of the updated immunization record to school. You will be notified if your child’s immunizations are overdue in the state database. We are required to keep up to date immunization records on file at the school.
ATTENTION FIFTH GRADE PARENTS: State law requires that students entering sixth grade receive booster shots after turning 11. These vaccines include: Tdap and Meningococcal. Please make an appointment with your health care provider after your child’s 11th birthday. Shot records can be faxed, emailed, or sent in an envelope to school. Our fax number is 225-275-0376. Nurse Rochelle's email address is rochelle@stmbr.org. Shot records for entering sixth graders are due by JULY 15, 2024. If your child will not be 11-years-old before starting sixth grade, they are allowed a grace period to get the vaccines after their birthday.
UNIFORMS NEEDED IN FIRST AID: Gently used uniforms are kept in First Aid for emergencies. The following items are needed if you have donations: boys pants size 6, 16, and 18; mens shorts sizes 30-44; and undershorts for girls in all sizes (especially adult). If your child has borrowed any clothes from the school nurse, please wash and return them at your earliest convenience. Most of the clothes are marked with “STM” on the inside.
The Home & School Association General Meeting for parents will be Thursday, April 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the STM Library.
We are now collecting Community Coffee Cash for Schools proofs of purchase for the 2024-2025 school year. Save your own proofs of purchase, plus consider posting this easy ask flyer at you or your family’s places of work or your STM family-owned local places of business.
