Caution: TikTok "Chromebook Challenge"

There is a TikTok trend called the "Chromebook Challenge" or the "Chromebook Durability Test," which urges students to stick a paper clip or other metal object into the USB-port of Chromebook/laptop computers. The goal is for the object to create sparks. There is a risk that the Chromebook/laptop could catch fire, causing burns or even flying shrapnel. STM faculty and staff have warned our students against this trend. Although STM Chromebooks do not leave campus, we are cautioning parents in case children have access to Chromebooks or laptops at home.

Q-ballers Raise Funds for Tunnel to Towers

Since it was established, St. Thomas More Catholic School Q-Ballers has donated nearly $29,000 to various charities and organizations exclusively due to the generosity of each 6th grade class since 2005. This year’s group of 6th graders raised nearly $2000 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in an effort to be selected as a 2025 Q-Baller. Their generosity and giving nature were on full display as they bought raffle tickets over a 2-day period. We hope their contribution will make a difference in the lives of so many veterans and first responders who have sacrificed so much.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge currently offers caregiver support groups, support for sacramental preparation, accommodation at different church events, an annual family day, a family spiritual retreat, and monthly sensory-friendly Masses within the diocese. Sensory-friendly Masses have lower lighting, no music, a shorter, more literal homily, and fellowship with other parishioners on a similar journey. Families and individuals are encouraged to get up and move if needed, to bring alternative seating, fidgets or noise canceling headphones, and to participate in the liturgy just as they are. St. Thomas More will host a sensory-friendly Mass on Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. If this sounds like a Mass that you, your family, or someone you know would enjoy, please join us! For more information about the All Are Welcome ministry, please visit https://diobr.org/special-needs.
