What is Mission Day?
St. Thomas More’s annual Mission Day is one of the special long-standing traditions of our parish school. This one-day fall festival for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade generates funds for a Catholic mission in need of support. The money raised at Mission Day is donated to an organization chosen by the 8th grade students. This year, our 8th graders have chosen the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who work to provide education to remote and
disadvantaged communities in Peru.
Games and activities are set up throughout campus, and the students participate while enjoying a fun day with their friends. A great way to have your child more involved in the purpose of Mission Day is to encourage them to find ways to earn/raise money for Mission Day, such as doing special chores around the house or helping out a neighbor in need.

Disease of the week: Stomach virus As some of you have already heard, stomach virus is making its rounds. It is highly contagious, so we ask that you please keep students home for 24 hours after vomiting and diarrhea have stopped. When they do return to school, please send your child with a bland lunch until they can tolerate a regular diet.
Please sign and return vision or hearing referral letters! We conducted vision and hearing screenings in grades K-8 in late September/early October. If your child(ren) did not pass one of the screenings, you should have received a referral letter. Please sign and return the bottom portion of the letter to Nurse Rochelle. Second notices will be sent out soon. If you receive a second notice, this means that Nurse Rochelle did not receive the first letter signed by a parent. Even if you have spoken with Nurse Rochelle on the phone about a referral, we must have a parent signature on file to show that a parent was notified of a referral. If your child(ren) passed the screenings, no notifications were made. Please email Nurse Rochelle if you have any questions at rochelle@stmbr.org.
OCTOBER is an ideal time to get your annual flu vaccinations! Flu vaccines have been shown to decrease the frequency of flu and the severity of flu cases in those vaccinated. In children aged 6 months-17 years, the flu vaccine was shown to decrease flu-related hospitalization by 41% and emergency room visits by 50%. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33020249/
Beginning October 17, parents/guardians once again may join their children for lunch. Due to space and Child Protection requirements, please adhere to the following guidelines:
The St. Thomas More Student Council has been busy spreading spirit and providing service to the school during the past few months. The Student Council consists of Junior High Students elected by their peers. The 2022-2023 executive officers include Marlei Franklin, president; Emerson Cramer, vice president; Vanessa Taabony, secretary; and Gwendolyn McDermott, treasurer.
The Student Council planned and carried out the Fall Pep Rally in honor of our fall sports teams on Monday, September 26, prior to the Monday Night Football Game. The cheerleaders worked with the Student Council to present a spirit-filled event, based on the theme “Surf’s Up for a Victory.” All students were allowed to wear tropical accessories for the day in keeping with the theme, and Student Council members gave each student a lei as they entered the gym. All fall sports teams including football, basketball, soccer, cross country, and tennis were honored at the pep rally. Throughout the pep rally students were entertained with cheers from the cheerleaders and competitive games including a hula hoop contest, a “surfing” contest, a “Hungry Shark” contest, and a tug-of-war competition. The pep rally ended with a “Two Bits” contest with the 8th graders winning the spirit sticks for being the loudest. The pep rally was a fun event filled with school spirit. Click here to view photos of the pep rally.
In addition to the pep rally, the Student Council has been carrying out the school recycling program. This is a great service to the school.
The Student Council is sponsored by Ashley Llaneza, Reagan Snow, and Jo Samaha.
