Q-ballers Contribute to STM Athletics and Charities

Each spring, the Q-ballers, established by Mr. Brian Quantrille in 2005, brings selected 6th grade students together for a morning of fun and games to raise money for various charities. This year's event will take place on May 11. Since its inception, the Q-ballers have raised more than $20,000! This year, the Q-ballers raised $3,389, which will be distributed among the STM Athletic Hall of Fame, Village Schools International, and the Louisiana Pediatric Cardiology Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families in Louisiana to help ease the burden of out-of-pocket expenses when their children are undergoing life-saving heart surgeries. Thank you, Mr. Q and 6th graders, for your generosity!

Requirements for Volunteering at STM

Please note, the current Safe and Sacred training site will go down beginning April 29 for migration to the new CAPS (Compass Abuse Prevention Services) site. No child protection credentials will be assigned between April 29 and up to launch on May 6. All new applicant functions on the new CAPS platform will go live on May 6.

St. Thomas More must provide a safe environment for children and youth. We hold ALL adults who work with minors to a code of conduct that is Christ-centered and professional. The Safe Environment Program implemented by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge requires us to evaluate the background of all paid personnel and volunteers whose duties include ongoing, unsupervised contact with minors.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge has adopted Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Any one who wants to volunteer at St. Thomas More must be in compliance with this policy. ALL requirements must be met in order to volunteer.

The Diocese is still transitioning to a new system for volunteers to apply for Child Protection Certification. In the meantime, you may still follow these steps to become certified to volunteer at STM:

When volunteering or participating in STM events, please remember that due to safety and liability coverage, we cannot allow any other children or siblings who are not St. Thomas More students to attend.

Nurse's Notes

ATTENTION PRESCHOOL PARENTS: After the fourth birthday, your child is eligible to receive shots required for kindergarten entry. If your child receives immunizations, please send a copy of the updated immunization record to school. You will be notified if your child’s immunizations are overdue in the state database. We are required to keep up to date immunization records on file at the school.

ATTENTION FIFTH GRADE PARENTS: State law requires that students entering sixth grade receive booster shots after turning 11.  These vaccines include: Tdap and Meningococcal.  Please make an appointment with your health care provider after your child’s 11th birthday.  Shot records can be faxed, emailed, or sent in an envelope to school. Our fax number is 225-275-0376. Nurse Rochelle's email address is rochelle@stmbr.org. Shot records for entering sixth graders are due by JULY 15, 2024.  If your child will not be 11-years-old before starting sixth grade, they are allowed a grace period to get the vaccines after their birthday.

UNIFORMS NEEDED IN FIRST AID: Gently used uniforms are kept in First Aid for emergencies. The following items are needed if you have donations: boys pants size 6, 16, and 18; mens shorts sizes 30-44; and undershorts for girls in all sizes (especially adult). If your child has borrowed any clothes from the school nurse, please wash and return them at your earliest convenience. Most of the clothes are marked with “STM” on the inside.
