Carpool Safety

Preschool: As you exit the carpool area in the morning and afternoon, please know that bikers and walkers are crossing the exit on the sidewalk to get to and from school. We will place a stop sign in that area to help everyone slow down, but we felt this reminder was paramount in keeping our students safe. Please stop and look in this area to make sure no one is trying to cross.

Grades 1-4: There are to be no right turns into the parking lot from Dartmoor.  All cars should enter into the parking lot/carpool line from Parkwood Dr.  Please click here to view the 1-4 carpool map.

Nurse's Notes

FLU season has made its way to our area. Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches, and fatigue. Symptoms of flu, COVID, and other illnesses can overlap, so please see your PCP for diagnosis and treatment. Please keep your student(s) home until fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication. Please report cases of COVID, strep, or flu to Nurse Rochelle by email or phone: rochelle@stmbr.org or 225-272-3072. Stomach virus has also been active recently, and we ask that you keep students home until vomiting and diarrhea have subsided for 24 hours and students are tolerating solid food.

2022 STM Mother Seton Award Recipient is Courtney Moore

Congratulations to Courtney Moore for being chosen as the 2022 STM Mother Seton Award recipient! The Mother Seton Award is presented annually by each school in the Diocese of Baton Rouge to honor one individual within the home and school community who emulates the qualities and service of Mother Elizabeth Anne Seton, for whom the award is named. Mother Seton was the founder of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and a pioneer in Catholic education. She established the first Catholic elementary school in the United States in Baltimore in 1808 as well as an orphanage in Philadelphia in 1814. Through her life as a wife, mother, widow and member of a religious order, Mother Seton became an exemplary role model and an inspiration to others who follow in her footsteps. She was canonized in 1975 by Pope Paul VI.Pictured left to right are Joanne Harvey, Diocese of Baton Rouge Home and School Board President; Dr. Melanie Palmisano, Diocese of Baton Rouge Superintendent of Catholic Schools; Courtney Moore; and Most Reverend Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Baton Rouge.

Q-Ballers Raise Donations for Samaritan's Purse

On March 30 and 31, 6th graders bought raffle tickets for a chance to be chosen as a 2022 Q-Baller. The Q-Ballers chosen will gather on a Saturday morning to play a wide variety of crazy games, make lasting memories, and have loads of fun! This tradition goes back to 2005, when the money raised was donated to STM church during Festival week.  Since then, the money has been donated to many different charities. To date, 6th graders over the years have now donated over $21,000! This year, the money will be donated to Samaritan's Purse — a Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical support to places experiencing hardships like those caused by Hurricane Ida. This year's group of amazingly generous 6th graders raised $2,332 in what amounts to about 2 hours time. Mr. Quantrille would like to thank each and every one of the 6th graders (and their parents) who took a chance on this worthy cause.

STM Spring Pep Rally

The Junior High Student Council sponsored the spring pep rally for grades 5-8 on March 25, to honor all spring STM sports teams. The teams that were honored included the girls' volleyball, boys' basketball, and track teams. Lucy Kyle, student council president, opened the pep rally by introducing these teams to the crowd. Once all had been introduced, Lucy led a prayer followed by the "Star-Spangled Banner," which was played by 8th grader Matt Ashe. The Jr. High cheerleaders, our Eagle mascot Michael Mauk, and DJs Lorelei Robinson and Michael Schittone kept spirit going with cheers, chants, and music. Students were entertained by the traditional volleyball match between the 8th grade boys' basketball team and the 8th grade girls' volleyball team. Isabella Diodene served as commentator for the game. Coaches for the two teams included Tanner Miller, Jailen Butler, and Madison Plauché, while game officials were Emma Henry, Grace Hernandez, and Caroline Bradley.  In addition to the volleyball game, the students enjoyed a tug-of-war competition between volleyball games. The pep rally was filled with fun, spirit, and friendly competition and was enjoyed by all in attendance. The 2021-2022 student council officers are Lucy Kyle, president; Sydney Gomez, secretary; and Christopher Nguyen, treasurer. Sponsors of the student council are Ashley Llaneza, Reagan Show, and Jo Samaha. Kaleigh Mitchell sponsors the Jr. High cheerleaders.

CRS Rice Bowls Collection - Monday, April 11

CRS Rice Bowls will be collected on Monday, April 11. Please remind your child(ren) to bring their Rice Bowl donations to school on Monday.

This Lent, our STM community participated in Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl, a program that invites us to reflect on the challenges of global hunger — and our Gospel call to care for our global human family. Seventy-five percent of your donation supports CRS work around the world, and 25 percent of gifts stay in our Diocese for hunger and poverty alleviation efforts.

Your child received a Rice Bowl at school. It is a wonderful way to engage our children in almsgiving throughout Lent. For example, children can earn donations by helping with household chores.

Visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities you support through your Lenten gifts to CRS Rice Bowl. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl with your family!
