Eagle News

January 19, 2024

Dear Parents,

We know you have a choice when it comes to schools in the Baton Rouge area, and we are grateful that you choose to partner with the faculty, staff and administration at St. Thomas More Catholic School for your child’s education!

The re-enroll process for currently enrolled St. Thomas More students is now under way. This process will be completed in your FACTS Family Portal. All currently enrolled families received an email on Monday, January 15, with instructions to log in to Family Portal and navigate to the re-enrollment link.

The re-enrollment fee for current students is $360 per student through January 31, 2024. After January 31, 2024, the fee will increase to $460.

The 2024-25 tuition and fee schedule is now available and may be found here: 2024-25 Tuition and Fees. There was an overwhelmingly positive response to the parent survey sent in the fall in regard to a police officer presence on campus. In response, we will have police presence on campus beginning this fall. There will be a $140 police officer fee assessed per child per school year. With this new fee in mind, we are keeping our tuition increase to a minimum.

As many current families may be anticipating the addition of another family member to our school community for 2024-25, we want to make you aware that the application process for NEW students is under way. You may apply for your NEW student from now until January 31, 2024 to be considered in the first round of admissions. The application for new students is at stmbr.org/apply. The application fee for new students is $80 per student.

For enrollment questions, please contact Kristen Flores at floresk@stmbr.org or 225-275-2820. For tuition/fees or financial questions, please contact Michelle Fontenot at fontenotm@stmbr.org or 225-275-2820.

God bless you and your family and we look forward to continuing our partnership with you during the upcoming school year!

Your partner in education,

Ashley McDaniel
Principal

Submit 2024 STM Mother Seton Award nominations by February 5

The Mother Seton Award is presented annually by each school in the Diocese of Baton Rouge to honor one individual within the home and school community who emulates the qualities and service of Mother Elizabeth Anne Seton, for whom the award is named. Mother Seton was the founder of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and a pioneer in Catholic education. She established the first Catholic elementary school in the United States in Baltimore in 1808 as well as an orphanage in Philadelphia in 1814. Through her life as a wife, mother, widow and member of a religious order, Mother Seton became an exemplary role model and an inspiration to others who follow in her footsteps. She was canonized in 1975 by Pope Paul VI.

Please click here to submit your nomination. Nominations are due Monday, February 5.

There are several qualifications:

  • A volunteer must have been involved for at least three years (These do not need to be consecutive years).
  • Dependable, hardworking, self-sacrificing, attuned to the needs of the children and the school
  • Enthusiastic, generous, supportive of the educators and the administration
  • Concerned and ready to go the extra mile for Catholic education
  • A model of living Gospel values

The person nominated may be a man or woman and must be a current member of the Home and School Association. As a reminder, all parents and guardians are members of the Home and School Association.

2024 STM Distinguished Graduate - Jean Paul Gaspard

Congratulations to Jean Paul Gaspard, STM Class of 2005, and our Distinguished Graduate for 2024! Mr. Gaspard will be honored at the Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Schools Awards Dinner on January 29 during Catholic Schools Week.

As the executive director of ARC Baton Rouge, Mr. Gaspard serves others and positively impacts the Baton Rouge community by improving the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through advocacy, services, and support.

Mr. Gaspard is an annual contributor and advocate for the Baton Rouge ALS Association, a volunteer at STM school and church festival, volunteer at Special Olympics Louisiana, and he was elected to the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Committee of Executives through ARC of Louisiana.

When asked about his belief in Catholic education, he said, "I believe it sets the foundation for your academic journey and builds a strong relationship with Christ from a very young age."

STM is blessed to have two members of Mr. Gaspard's family with us each day: 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Tracy Gaspard is his mother, and his daughter is a student!
