Dear Parents,
At St. Thomas More, the safety of our students and faculty is our highest priority. The school has been conducting safety drills in order to prepare for a possible emergency. In August, we practiced a fire drill, a lockdown drill, and a shelter in place drill. We announced each one of these drills so that the teachers could prepare their students. These drills will improve our ability to protect everyone and assist us in evaluating our emergency plans. We will continue to have practice safety drills, some announced and some unannounced, each month. The next scheduled fire drill is Tuesday, September 22. Please discuss the idea of safety drills with you child. The teachers are discussing and reviewing procedures as well. Our goal is to ensure that our students feel safe and secure while on campus. Due to parent-teacher conferences, there is no school on Monday, September 21, for students in grades 6 through 8.
Calling all STM boys in grades K–8 and their moms (or grandmothers, godmothers, aunts, or other special female role model)! Join us TOMORROW, Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. for an afternoon of food, fun, games, and memory-making on the STM athletic field and in the school gym.
Due to safety and liability coverage, we cannot allow any other children or siblings, younger or older, not enrolled at STM, to attend the Mother & Son Tailgate. Only boys enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade at STM may be present.
We are Eagles Being Disciples of Christ! Each month, our school community will participate in a service project to help the needy. For our September project, we are asking for donations of new socks for the Baton Rouge Parents Magazine Sock It to Me! drive. Socks are among the most needed items at shelters. The vision is to put new socks that provide warmth and protection on the feet of men, women, and children who are in need. Students will bring up their donations of new socks during a special collection at Mass on Thursday, September 24. Thank you for your generosity!

Tuesday, August 25, was an exciting day for the students in Frey Hall. As students arrived, they found the Commons filled with spirited activity as candidates campaigned for student council offices. The candidates displayed creative campaign boards and distributed election materials to their fellow students. Once the campaigning concluded, those running for office delivered persuasive speeches to earn votes from their classmates. All candidates did an outstanding job on their campaigns and speeches. After the speeches, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders voted for the officers who will lead the student council for 2026-2027.
The officers elected were Amelie U., president; Scarlett M., vice president; Lyra B., secretary; and Lincoln L., treasurer. Each homeroom also elected officers, who will make up the general membership and work with the executive officers on activities.
The student council provides service to the school and also promotes school spirit. Activities of the organization include operating the school-wide recycling program, organizing and carrying out pep rallies, presenting Halloween safety talks, carrying out St. Nicholas Day activities, sponsoring the Eagle Buck reward program, and serving as guides for Grandparents Day. The student council members look forward to an active and successful year. Sponsors for the organization include Mrs. Ashley Llaneza, Mrs. Jo Samaha, and Mr. Henry Walsh.
Congratulations to our newest Beta Club members! The STM Beta Club installed new officers and welcomed new members into our chapter at their induction ceremony. Beta Club is an academic honors program with a strong emphasis on leadership and community service open to our 7th and 8th graders.

Volunteers Needed - Vision & Hearing Screenings: We are looking for volunteers to help with our upcoming vision and hearing screening days on September 15, 16, and 30! Updated Medical Paperwork: Medical orders and paperwork must be renewed each school year. If your student had medical orders at school last year and you would like to renew them for the 2026–27 school year, please contact Nurse Rochelle with questions or to request blank paperwork - 225-272-3072
Help Us Track Illnesses: Nurse Rochelle monitors cases of flu, strep, COVID-19, and other contagious illnesses within our school community. If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness, please email rochelle@stmbr.org. This helps us keep accurate records and monitor illness trends at school. Thank you for helping us keep our students and school community healthy!
Mandatory meeting for parents of students registered for Sacramental preparation: Tuesday, September 30 at 6 p.m. in the Activity Center. A make-up meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 12 p.m. in the Mother Teresa Room for parents who are unable to attend the September 30 meeting.
SCHOOL MASS: Thursdays at 8:45 a.m. when school is in session. Exceptions: December 8 is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a Holy Day of Obligation, therefore Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 8 rather than Thursday, December 10. There is no Mass on October 8 or February 4.
